Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has actively driven diplomatic initiatives and strategic cooperation across the Gulf region and beyond. In his role, Sheikh Abdullah has engaged in high‑level discussions, strengthened bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and championed joint efforts to enhance stability, peace, and economic collaboration.

On 25 December 2025, Sheikh Abdullah co‑chaired the 13th session of the Joint Higher Committee meeting between the UAE and the Kingdom of Bahrain in Abu Dhabi. He welcomed Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and senior officials from both nations. Sheikh Abdullah underscored the longstanding fraternal relations between the UAE and Bahrain, emphasizing strategic cooperation in areas such as trade, renewable energy, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies. He highlighted the role of these bilateral ties in promoting peace, security, and regional development.

In his address at the joint committee meeting, Sheikh Abdullah stressed that mutual trust and close consultation have deepened cooperation and consolidated the strategic partnership between the two countries. He noted that the UAE views Bahrain as not merely a partner but a cornerstone of regional stability and an essential contributor to GCC progress. Sheikh Abdullah also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting Bahrain during its non‑permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for 2026–2027, highlighting sustained collaborative efforts on global diplomatic stages.

Sheikh Abdullah has also taken part in strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia, reinforcing the UAE’s support for Riyadh’s efforts to promote regional security. On 26 December 2025, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Saudi Arabia’s active role in supporting security and stability in Yemen, commending the Kingdom’s constructive contributions to peace and prosperity for the Yemeni people. The UAE recognized the positive impact of Saudi Arabia’s regional leadership in alleviating conflict and advancing humanitarian objectives.

Beyond coordinating with Gulf neighbors, Sheikh Abdullah engaged in bilateral diplomacy with global partners to address broader regional challenges. For instance, he received the Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, in Abu Dhabi, where they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen ties between the UAE and Tanzania. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed his country’s commitment to building cooperative relations that foster development and shared prosperity.

In addition to his role in Middle East and African diplomacy, Sheikh Abdullah has engaged with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to review deep‑rooted fraternal relations between the UAE and Jordan. During this meeting, he highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in key sectors aligned with each country’s development priorities and discussed regional developments, including the situation in Gaza and broader Middle East issues.

Sheikh Abdullah’s international engagement also extended to China’s diplomatic outreach. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited the region and met with Sheikh Abdullah during his tour that included the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between China and Gulf states, potentially including initiatives such as free‑trade negotiations between China and the GCC, which the UAE has been encouraged to help facilitate through its strategic relationships.

Across all of these efforts, Sheikh Abdullah has emphasized the importance of coordination and joint action among Gulf states, reinforcing the notion that collective diplomatic engagement and regional partnership are essential to addressing shared challenges.
