Girma Wolde-Giorgis was born on December 28, 1924, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He grew up during Emperor Haile Selassie’s reign and received his education at the Genet Military School. Advocacy for Environment and Peace
Girma Wolde-Giorgis devoted much of his life to environmental conservation and peacebuilding. He actively promoted reforestation and water conservation projects, long before environmental issues became a global priority. He co-founded the Lem Ethiopia Environmental Organization, which worked to protect the country’s natural resources and raise awareness about sustainability. His environmental efforts reflected his belief that protecting nature was essential for national development and the well-being of future generations.
Political Journey and Rise to the Presidency
