Ukraine is a large and historically rich country in Eastern Europe, known for its deep cultural roots, powerful medieval states, and long struggle for independence. Danylo Romanovych (Daniel of Galicia) (1253–1264)
Danylo is the most famous medieval ruler associated with the title of king in Ukrainian history. He was crowned King of Rus’ in 1253 by a papal legate. As ruler of Galicia–Volhynia, he strengthened the state, defended it against Mongol pressure, and promoted urban development.
Lev I Danylovych (1264–1301)
The son of Danylo, Lev I ruled the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia after his father. Though not always formally crowned as king in the same way, he continued the royal tradition and expanded the influence of the kingdom. The city of Lviv is named after him.
Yuri I Lvovych (1301–1308)
Yuri I, son of Lev I, adopted the title King of Rus’ and maintained the prestige of the kingdom. His reign is remembered for political stability and the continuation of state institutions in western Ukrainian lands.
Andrew and Lev II (1308–1323)
These co-rulers were the sons of Yuri I. They jointly governed Galicia–Volhynia and tried to defend the kingdom from external threats, including neighboring powers and the continuing influence of the Mongols.
Yuri II Boleslav (1323–1340)
Yuri II Boleslav was the last ruler of the independent Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia. His death marked the decline of this medieval Ukrainian kingdom and opened the door for foreign powers, especially Poland and Lithuania, to dominate the region.

Although Ukraine did not have a long formal monarchy under the title “King of Ukraine,” it did have important royal rulers, especially in the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia.
