Baburam Bhattarai was born on June 18, 1954, in Khoplang, Gorkha, Nepal. He grew up in a rural family and developed an early interest in learning. After completing his schooling in Gorkha, he pursued higher education at Tribhuvan University. Later, he went to India for further studies and earned his Master’s degree in Architecture from Chandigarh. His academic journey did not stop there—he completed his PhD in Development Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Political Career
Baburam Bhattarai entered politics as a student leader and quickly gained recognition for his sharp intellect. He co-founded the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and became one of its key strategists during the People’s War (1996–2006). In 2008, after the end of monarchy in Nepal, he became the Finance Minister in the government. He introduced reforms to strengthen the economy and emphasized development in rural areas. His policies focused on reducing inequality and uplifting marginalized communities.
