Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani (1878–1913)

Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani is considered the founder of Qatar. He unified various tribes and established independence from Ottoman influence. His leadership laid the foundation of the Qatari state. National Day in Qatar is celebrated on December 18 in his honor.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani (1913–1949)

Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani ruled during a critical time when oil was discovered in Qatar in the 1930s. Although World War II delayed progress, oil would later change the country’s economy. He also signed treaties with Britain to protect Qatar.

Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani (1949–1960)

Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al Thani continued developing the oil industry. During his reign, Qatar saw improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Oil exports increased government income significantly.

Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani (1960–1972)

Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani ruled during Qatar’s independence from Britain in 1971. His leadership marked Qatar’s transition into a fully sovereign nation.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani (1972–1995)

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani focused on modernizing the country. He improved public services and strengthened the government. His rule helped prepare Qatar for future growth.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (1995–2013)

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani transformed Qatar into a global power. He expanded natural gas production, making Qatar one of the richest countries in the world. He also founded Al Jazeera, which became an internationally known news channel.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (2013–Present)

The current ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, continues to lead Qatar’s development. Under his leadership, Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup 2022, becoming the first Arab country to host the event. He focuses on economic diversification, education, and global diplomacy.
